Hi Folks and Happy New Year to you All!
Hope you all had wonderful Christmas and New Year celebrations and are now looking forward to 2016 and all the new experiences it will bring. We won’t be changing the good things we have been doing in the past but hope to add new items to the menu and new events to experience throughout the coming year. With that in mind here are some of the things that are happening in January in the Cafe.
After our trial tastings we have decided to add a few new items to the menu, including our tasty lamb shank cooked in its own thyme gravy, served with crispy chips and vegetables and our two new desserts, the Rocky Toffee Cheesecake mentioned last month and Apple Strudel served with cream, a scoop of vanilla ice cream or custard. We also have two new flavours of ice cream – a Ferrero Rocher creamy ice cream (served as a sundae with caramel sauce, whipped cream and a Ferrero Rocher on the top!) and a zingy Mandarin sorbet. We will be trying out lots of new items over the coming months and there will still be our “surprise” specials and of course we will keep asking for your feedback too, we are always open to suggestions.
Wednesday 6th January – Cindy, with the newly named Bayleaf Books, will be in the cafe from 2.30pm until around 4.30pm with her selection of new and used paperback and hardback books. We will also have this month’s issue of the Deux Sevres magazine here in the cafe for you to pick up and peruse at your leisure.
Saturday 30th January – we will be holding a Burns Night Quiz and dinner here in the cafe. We are very lucky as the authentic Scottish Burns Night meal is being cooked and prepared by Angie and Val, lovely Scottish ladies who did the same for us last year. The evening starts from 7.30pm (doors open 7.00pm) and we will have a few rounds of quiz questions, some with a specifically Scottish theme, and of course the lovely meal – the menu for which is as follows:
You will be served with a complimentary tot of Whisky to toast the Haggis
Haggis, neeps and tatties pakora
Roast loin of Pork stuffed with black pudding, served with a whole grain mustard sauce, seasonal vegetables and potatoes
Cranachan bread and butter pudding served with a whisky cream
A selection of cheeses served with oatcakes
There will be a great selection of prizes and of course our now famous Wooden Spoon! The cost per ticket is 22€50, which will need to be paid at least a week in advance of the quiz date. If you would like tickets please either email us or come into the cafe to book your places – Don’t delay as places go fast!
We are back to our normal Opening Hours during January i.e. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 11.00am to 6.00pm and late on Friday evenings for drinks in the bar and we also offer a two/three course evening menu with special main courses which change each week.
