Cafe Cour du Miracle Newsletter – July 2015

Hello everyone,

A little early this month with the Newsletter as we shall be closed at the very beginning of July so we want to make sure that you all have advance warning of everything happening during July – so here we go!

As mentioned in our June Newsletter, we will be closed from Monday 22nd June until Friday 3rd of July when we will open at 11.00am and close late (10.30pm) as we would normally do on a Friday evening.

On Sunday 5th July the annual Vide Grenier will be held in Vouvant from 8.00am until 7.00pm.  There are still pitches to be had so if you need an application form we have them in the cafe or in the Tourist Office in the village.  It is usually a busy and exciting day in the village with lots of stalls and interesting things to buy.  The cafe will be open offering lunches, ice creams, cakes and cream teas, as well as our range of beers, wines and non-alcoholic beverages such as our new Australian Ginger Beer. We look forward to seeing some of you bargain hunters here in the village on the 5th!

As we are not open on the first Wednesday of the month, Cindy and Keith will be here on Friday 10th of July with their selection of new and used books from 2.30pm in the afternoon until 4.30pm. If the weather is good they will be set up in the courtyard, a perfect opportunity to browse the books and sit for a while with a cuppa, a beer or refreshing soft drink.

And finally don’t forget that at the beginning of August, on the 9th, we have the Anglo-British Fair here in Vouvant – look out for further details in the coming month,

OK folks that’s it for now, hope to see you soon,
Kind regards
Paul and Karen

Cafe Cour du Miracle Newsletter – June 2015

Hello Everyone and welcome to Summer at last!

Last week we changed our menu to reflect our Summer selection and, guess what? – this week the sun is shining and the temperatures are rising – summer is here at last!  The plants in the courtyard are benefiting from the warm sun and the longer hours of sunlight, as are we.  Our opening hours have been extended too – we are now open from 11.00am until 7.00pm Wednesday through to Sunday, and we still have our late night on Friday evening open until around 10.00pm.  Weather permitting you will be able to enjoy our special Friday evening menus at a table in the courtyard, although you may well have to pre-book to ensure there is a table available for you – a quick call is all it takes.

Well what’s happening this month in Vouvant and at the Cafe Cour du Miracle – let’s take a look:

Each and every Monday morning from around 9.00am until lunchtime there will be a Summer Market located in the Place du Bail at the top of the car park under the tower. Here you will find a number of local producers and artisans providing a variety of items from farm produce, vegetables and fruit, to jewellery and gifts. The car park is not closed and the market is signposted so if you get a chance come and have a look. It will be open from now until the end of September.

On Wednesday 3rd, Cindy (“Paperback Jan”) will be here in the Cafe from 2.30pm until 4.30pm with her selection of paperbacks and new books for you to choose some new reading matter for those lazy “Deckchair Days” now that the warmer weather is here.  Come along and see Cindy and treat yourself to a long cool drink or one of our new ice creams, and enjoy your afternoon in the courtyard under a parasol.

Also this Wednesday there is an orchestral concert to be held in the Church in Vouvant from 7.00pm.  Entrance is free and as the acoustics in the church are exceptional the concert should be very good.

Every afternoon in the cafe we now offer our “Teatime Treats”.  This new menu includes all the favourites i.e. Victoria Sandwich, Lemon Drizzle sponge and Coffee and Walnut cake, and we have now added delicious Fruit Scones served with jam and cream, a very succulent Apricot, Orange and Nut loaf, Double Chocolate Muffins and our extra scrumptious Blueberry Muffins.  And not to forget those of you with a more savoury tooth, we have Cheesy scones served with grated Cheddar Cheese and butter. Throughout the summer we will be adding and changing our teatime menu to include new cakes and also ice cream sundaes – Watch this Space!

And to help us serve all these extra wonders we are very happy to welcome back Cher who will be with us again for the season from this Wednesday (3rd June).  We are very pleased to welcome her back to the Cafe and hope that you will all be as pleased as we are that she will be here to share the summer months with us!

From the 5th to the 28th June there is an exhibition of paintings by the late Guy Ribière  entitled “Hommage à Guy Ribière”.  Guy was a fantastic artist who, for the past couple of years until his death in October 2013, exhibited and worked out of the studio in the courtyard. He had also had many exhitions of his works in La Rochelle, Bruges and New Zealand.  Guy was a lovely man and is much missed by his wife, family and friends.  If you do get a chance to visit the exhibition I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the wonderful works he left behind.  The exhibition is open each day until 6.00pm.

Not quite in June but at the beginning of July, here is a fore-warning regarding the Vouvant Vide-Grenier – it will be on Sunday 5th July.  Anyone wanting to take a stall space should contact the organisers – Sonia Bely on 06 50 55 59 10 or Delphine Arnoux on 06 30 36 26 89.  The cost is 3 euros per linear metre and payment (by cheque) should be made at time of booking.  All further details can be obtained from the organisers.

OK folks that’s just about it for June, however we will be closed from the last week of June from Monday 22nd June until we re-open on Thursday 2nd July so that we can attend a family wedding.

Hope to see you in the cafe soon,
Kind regards
