Christmas is almost upon us and we are getting ready for the festivities here in Vouvant. The cafe looks very festive with all the Christmas decorations. The Christmas fair has come and gone and the next big village social event is the Pompier’s Ball to be held in the new Salle de Fetes, this Saturday evening. If you haven’t got your names on the list for tickets you had better get a move on! It’s great fun, lots of good food, wine and beer and it’s a great social occasion giving everyone a chance to get together. More details available from the cafe.
We now have our Bierre de Noel on tap and our delicious mulled wine too. When the wind and cold starts to nip your fingers and toes after your walk around the village, why not pop in and warm up with a spicy Christmas beer or warming cup of wine?
A quick reminder too for anyone wishing to vote in the local elections in Vouvant next year, your voting forms have to be completed and submitted to the Mayor’s office by the end of the year – preferably by the 15th December. We have details of how to complete the forms (in English) if you require them in the cafe. You can vote in both the local and European elections if you are a resident of Vouvant or if you have owned a holiday home here for over 5 years. Come and see us if you have any questions and we can point you in the right direction for the answers.
On Wednesday 4th (tomorrow) we have Paperback Jan in the cafe from 2.30 along with Leonie and her selection of Neal’s Yard stocking fillers, a great chance to pick up some Christmas gifts. Jan has some new as well as used books and a good selection of DVDs too, while Leonie has some very reasonably priced (around 6 euros) gifts from the Neal’s Yard range of cosmetics and perfumery. Should be something for everyone.
Our last quiz went really well and the stew and dumplings were scrummy even though I say it myself! Our next quiz will be held on the Saturday before Christmas – the 21st of December – and will be Christmas themed. Apart from the usual super prizes there will be a glass of champagne, and Christmas themed meal with Christmas cracker, and a gift for everyone who takes part. The ticket price which includes the meal and your place in the quiz is 15euros and tickets are available from Paul in the cafe. You will need to come in to pay for and get your tickets before the day and as places are limited speed is advised! Make sure you bring your tickets with you on the evening as they are individually numbered and there will be a super Christmas raffle on the night too.
On Sunday 22nd December from 6.00pm we will be holding our annual “Carols in the Cafe” evening. Everyone is invited to join us in singing our favourite Christmas Carols, some in French too, led by Jacky. Entrance is free and there will be nibbles for everyone too. Come along and enjoy the festive atmosphere with a glass of mulled wine or Christmas beer.
