What a lovely few days we have had – today is just a rest for us all and some much needed water for the plants – Paul assures me the sun will be out in full for the Vide Grenier at the weekend and for the weeks to follow (you know who to blame now!) We had a fabulous Fete de Musique with the French Connection playing in the courtyard – it was a great night and enjoyed by everyone – including our neighbour Madeleine who would usually be in bed early but couldn’t resist the music and was dancing away indoors with her family! Thanks guys for a great night and thanks to everyone who came along and enjoyed the evening.
We have a new member of staff joining us here at the cafe for July and August – Welcome to the cafe Anita. Anita will be joining Cher who has come back to help us again this year (we can’t be too bad then?)
Also don’t forget our Friday evening late opening. We stay open until 11.00pm on a Friday evening and offer a two or three course menu too. Come and join us for a drink or meal and enjoy the warm evening atmosphere in the courtyard or join in the chatter in the bar.
OK on to what is happening in July – there are quite a few things happening this month:
Today – Wednesday 3rd – we have Paperback Jan coming in to the cafe with her selection of new and used books and DVDs. She will be here from 2.30 until around 4.30pm. Why not pop in to see her and have a coffee or beer while you browse her collection of items for sale.
Sunday 7th July: It is the annual Vouvant Vide-Grenier. We have details in the cafe and application forms if you want to take a last minute stall. It all starts from around 8.00am and goes on until 7.00pm so there is plenty of time to find that bargain! We will be open throughout for lunches and snacks, as well as our usual drinks, cakes and ice creams.
From the 6th July to the 15th August there is an exhibition of art entitiled “Les Artisites singuliers” in the Nef beside the church. This is open daily and has free entrance.
On Thursday 11th June there is a concert planned on the square outside of the church entrance. The Vendee Orchestra directed by Claude Bardon will be playing music by various classical composers. The evening starts around 9.00pm and for more information call 02 51 51 48 92. Let’s hope the evening is dry for everyone.
On Sunday 14th July – Bastille Day – the village will be lit up by fireworks in the evening. During the day there will be the lunchtime meal of moules, frites and prefou and there will be much going on up on the green in front of the tower. If you would like to get involved and help out cleaning the moules in the morning it would be greatly appreciated. The group will meet up in the car park in front of the tower at 8.30am and clean away until about 11.00 – if you have some time to spare as many hands as possible are needed to help out. The fireworks usually start around 11pm and are set up around the walls of the village – a safe place to watch from is the plan d’eau.
Also this month in Antigny at the village hall (Ben Hur) there is a Jazz Festival with local groups and bands on the 5th, 6th and 7th July – we have some tickets behind the bar and more information on the poster in the cafe window – the tourist office also has tickets too.
And finally on Thursday 26th July there is the “Music Night in the Churches” – this is an event held throughout the Vendee with music provided by choirs and groups performing in the beautiful churches throughout the Vendee. Our church in Vouvant will be hosting an event and the evening starts around 9.00pm. Again we have a poster in the cafe window and flyers with more information.
Oh – some general information that I have just found out this morning – the bakers is now open every day of the week as is the supermarket in the village – summer opening hours for everyone!
Well folks that’s all for now, if you would like me to add any other events that are taking place in the village or nearby and that maybe we don’t know off then please give me some details and I will add them to our Newsletter. Hope to see you soon in the cafe.
