Apologies for the delay in getting this Newsletter to you all – the
sunshine has brought everyone out of their homes and into Vouvant and,
happily, into the cafe. It has been a busy few days since the
beginning of the month. We have had the front of the cafe painted and
Paul has painted all the shutters too – thanks to Paul Gapper for
managing to get the cafe all cleaned and painted in just two days, our
We have also introduced our new Summer Menu – we have some additions
to the salads, namely Chicken Caesar Salad and a salad of Mozzarella,
red onion, tomato and basil, lovely and refreshing during these hot
days. All the favourites are still there, the pies with new potatoes
or chips and veg. Well as lasagna and salad, omelet and burgers. So
we now have the cafe almost ready for the holiday season – just the
new window boxes and we will be all finished – at last….
Well on to events for June and we have a few this month, our main one
being our concert on the 21st June.
As part of the “France Fetes de Music” from 8.00pm on Friday 21st June
“French Connection” will be playing here in our courtyard. Entrance is
free – all we ask is that you come along and support the cafe and the
band. Let’s hope the weather will be good so that we can all enjoy a
warm midsummer evening .
Also happening in the village this month:
Sunday 9th June: the painters and artists in the village will have
their studios and galleries open for all to enjoy their works of art.
Come along to the village for a wander around some of the prettiest
streets and walks in the area and see all the works of art on display.
There are a couple of renovated and new galleries in the village
which are well worth a look.
There are also the new gift and interiors shop “Fresco” run by Alison
and Colin which has some beautiful gifts and ideas for your home, as
well as the soap and perfume shop next to the estate agents… And of
course the cafe too!
On the 28th and 29th of June in Moutiers Sous Chantemerle there are
two evenings of music, aimed particularly at those of us who are young
at heart and can still dance through the night. Full details are
available on the website “www.festiv-ete.fr”.
Later in the month on the 29th and 30th there is the “Raid Melusine”
when the village is invaded by runners, cyclists, swimmers and
abseilers who come to the village to take part in a time trial and
competition. It makes good watching in the afternoon when they get
back and have to abseil down the tower opposite the cafe – there is no
way I would be doing that for however much prize money!
And finally, on Sunday 7th July we have the annual Vouvant
Vide-Grenier. We have details in the cafe and application forms if
you wish to take a stall, it all starts from around 8.00am and goes on
until 7.00pm so there is plenty of time to find that absolutely
Well folks that’s all for now, back to the cake making and gardening
in between chatting with the customers – it’s a hard life but someone
has got to do it!
