As I sit here typing this there is a warm breeze and the sun is trying to peep through the clouds – autumn is on its way here in Vouvant but the days are still quite warm and sunny. Let’s hope it stays like this for a while….
Well we have lots of things happening over the next few weeks so let’s get on with the news:
Today – Wednesday 3rd October – PaperBack Jan is here this afternoon with her books – 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Why not pop in for lunch and then have a look at her vast array of books available at very good prices.
Our new Autumn/Winter menu will come into being on Saturday 13th October. There will be lots of old favourites returning to tempt your taste buds including our range of pies (Steak & Kidney, Beef & Mushroom, Chicken, leek & ham), Lasagne, Karen’s Chilli (with it’s special secret ingredient!), Paul’s warming Chicken curry and Jacket Potatoes with a variety of fillings. We will of course also have our Vegetarian options of Mediterranean pie, full of peppers, aubergines, onions and ricotta cheese under a filo pastry topping and our Fisherman’s Pie topped with fluffy mash. We will also have a “Soup of the Day” each day which is served with crusty bread and butter – plenty of options to choose from!
As you may know we have been looking to increase our range of draught beers by adding a guest beer each month. Our last guest beer was Beck’s which went down really well (pardon the pun!) This month we have replaced the Beck’s with “Jupiler”. Jupiler is a Belgian blond beer with a clear, light taste – not as strong as the Leffe which is also a Belgian beer, but just as enjoyable. We have also been able to maintain our supply of Bombardier Bitter and Magners Cider so we have quite a range of drinks for our discerning customers.
New House Wines:
We like to try different wines as well as beers so we have been sampling just a few bottles from local vineyards and suppliers over the summer months. We believe we have now found some very nice house wines – a new Chardonnay for the white wine, and a Rose from the Loire and a new one from the Provence region which we will be trying out soon. Our red remains the local Mareuil but we are also looking at a Merlot produced by Chateau Rosnay – a very smooth and pleasing wine on the palette. Why not come and try a glass or two with us, we would appreciate your comments. Don’t forget we also have a varied wine list with wines from some of our favourite vineyards at very reasonable prices.
We are going to continue opening late on a Friday evening throughout the winter (subject to demand of course) and are also considering what to do regarding food for the evening. We would like to offer a “one-pot” home cooked meal – such as Curry, Lasagne, Hotpot etc. We would like your opinion on this and would appreciate feedback. Please could you let us know if you think this would be a good idea, if you would come along and join us in the cafe, and also what sort of meals you would like – we will then try to come up with a solution.
Neal’s Yard Organic Beauty Pamper Evening:
On October 24th from 7.30pm we will be holding an evening event: A Neal’s Yard Beauty Pamper Evening.
Neal’s Yard started some 30 years ago in Covent Garden using homegrown herbs and remedies. Today they offer the opportunity to see their range of products and try them out at events such as our Pamper Evening. At our event you will be able to experience their skincare ranges and enjoy the aromatherapy benefits of their natural beauty products. You can discover your skin type and find the organic skincare regime that is perfect for you, and you can also order the products direct in either UK Sterling or Euros (can’t make it any easier!) So come along for home-made nibbles and an outstanding beauty and pamper experience. We’d love to see you!
Our last quiz night was a brilliant night and we are hoping to repeat it at our next quiz on Saturday 27th October. The evening will be themed around Halloween so the menu will be Spicy pumpkin soup followed by Chilli con Carne in jacket potatoes. As usual, please book your tables through Paul and let us have a 10Euro deposit. All tables are on a first come, first served basis and should be for a team of 4 people – it makes it very difficult to get everyone in if your team is more than 4!
Well folks, that’s it for now. We are packing up for our holidays and will be closed from Thursday 4th October through to when we re-open on the Saturday 13th October. Don’t forget we will be starting our Winter Menu on that day so look forward to seeing you then.
