Apologies for the lateness of this update – we have had a busy few days getting back into the swing of things after our annual holiday. Yes – I did say annual holiday – sounds strange to have a holiday in February but this is our quietest time so the best time to take a break. We’ll think of all you guys in August when you are lying on the beach and we are here in Vouvant – well maybe not such a bad thing anyway!!
Well while we were away and there was snow on the ground here in Vouvant, there were other exciting things happening on the other side of the world – you may remember that John and his sons were climbing Kilimanjaro, and since then John has come in to see us and tell us all about his experience. It sounded amazing! Well done and thanks to anyone who donated to John’s chosen charity – the Prostrate Cancer fund.
We had a really good evening on Saturday at our Quiz Night – the winning team “The Gatecrashers” won with an incredible 94 out of a possible 100 and our runners up “AngloDutch” ( a first time team) were only eleven points behind with 85 points. The wooden spoon went to a team that are making a good collection of wooden kitchen implements (spoons to you and I!) although they had a really good final round and we worried that they wouldn’t get their spoon!
Our next quiz will be on the 31st March and the meal will be good old English Cottage Pie with crusty bread and a dessert. Doors will open at 7.30pm and as usual, tables of four can be booked with Paul behind the bar. Tickets will be 10 Euros each (including the quiz and meal) and your table booking can be secured by a 10Euro deposit. We look forward to seeing you!
Another newsworthy item; we should be able to offer all our clients free WiFi in the near future. Over the next couple of weeks we will be getting this set up and you will be able to get a log-in code from Paul to enable you to get “connected in the Cafe”. WiFi, Cake, Coffee and Beer – what more could you want!!
A couple of things that are happening this month for your calendar:
7th March – Paperback Jan will be here with her collection of paperback books and DVDs – come and have a coffee and browse through her boxes of goodies.
15th March – Le Chataignerie – Cinema – The Artist. You can book seats with the Tourist Office in La Chataignerie as usual.
16, 17 and 18 March – Open House at Leonie Lynne’s.
Leonie has a wonderful collection of semi-precious jewellery as well as a collection of “Pandora” style bracelets and necklaces. Leonie is as 37 Chemin des Abattats, 85410 Le Caillere St Hilaire (full directions can be obtained from the cafe).
OK folks that’s all for now, look forward to seeing you all again soon in the cafe!
