A Happy and Healthy New Year to you all!

Well here we are at the beginning of 2012 – with all the excitement, new plans and hopes that a New Year brings with it. Let’s hope that this year is going to be a good one – maybe a little bit of belt tightening but we can have fun along the way!

We hope you had a good Christmas and New Year – we did. We spent Christmas and Boxing Days with friends playing games and eating and drinking far too much – well that is to be expected really isn’t it? New Year’s Eve was again spent with friends, this time enjoying a fabulous evening with French Connection playing all our favourite music and, of course, more food and drink. Oh well I suppose the diet starts tomorrow!

We had many visitors over the Christmas period and it was lovely to see everyone in the Cafe for the Carol Singing on Christmas Eve and pre-dinner drinks on Christmas Day. Thanks again to Jacquie, for getting everyone up and singing and also to Shirley for her French solo – perhaps next year we can get the song sheets out earlier and have some bi-lingual carols – food for thought anyone? Also thanks to everyone who sent us cards and good wishes for the season – we decorated the bar with all the cards we received.

We are back to our usual opening hours now – i.e. closed Monday and Tuesday each week and open from 11.00am until we close around 6.00pm. We will however close for one week this month for a brief trip back to the UK – we will close on Monday 16th January and re-open on Wednesday 25th January.

There are a couple of events to be mentioned this month:
Wednesday 4th January: PaperBack Jan will be here in the Cafe from 2.00pm until 4.00pm. Come along and have a look at Jan’s books and enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake, a coffee or maybe a glass of wine or a beer in the warm and friendly atmosphere of the cafe.

Thursday 5th January: The Mayor’s New Year celebration in Vouvant is this Thursday from 7.00pm in the village hall. I wonder which of the village gardens will get a mention this year – I know we have all been trying hard to catch the Mayor’s eye. Look forward to seeing you there.

Saturday 28th January: The Cafe Quiz Night – this month’s meal will be a two course Indian meal – Onion Bhaji, Samosa, salad and chutney starter with a Chicken curry served with rice, naan bread and poppadom main course. The evening will start from 7.00pm and you are invited to book your tables with Paul (tables of four please). Tickets are 10 euros each person and we would appreciate a deposit of 10 euros per table at time of booking. All bookings are on a first come first served basis.

We have recently been spending some time trying out new wines to add to our ever increasing wine list and we now have a very good selection of local whites, roses and reds, all at very reasonable prices and available to “take out”. Next time you are visiting ask Paul to see a copy of our new list.

And finally, we would like to take this opportunity to wish John all the luck in the world with his Kilimanjaro climb later this month – we can’t wait to see the pictures of you at the summit – good luck and keep warm!

Well we’re making the most of our day off and we are shortly off to Fontenay for a pallet competition and a beer. Hope to see you all very soon in the cafe!
