Here we are again – another month gone – time certainly does fly! After a beautiful sunny day yesterday we are back to the rain and cold – well I suppose that is the way to usher in the month of December. Although the village is looking very “Christmassy” with the decorations up in the streets and the shops, it is very quiet here at the moment as the road works to lay new electricity cables have caused a few problems with people getting in to see us. Hopefully they will finish their work on time and we should be OK for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!
Last weekend we had a very busy time with the Marche Noel and the walk organised by the school and village committee, together with our final quiz night for the year on Saturday evening. All events were well attended and we really enjoyed the quiz night. The winning team – the Door Keepers – did very well and the runners up – the Periwinkles – were only a few points behind them. Our next quiz will be in the new year – details will be sent out at the beginning of January as we haven’t decided on a theme or date yet.
If you haven’t got your Christmas Cards yet or would like some very special cards then come along an see us next week – from Sunday we will have our very own beautifully hand-painted sets of cards. Shirley Perry has painted five lovely scenes from around Vouvant which have been printed as Christmas cards. They will be available in assorted packs with envelopes from the cafe and from Shirley. Proceeds will be given to a local charity. On Wednesday “Paperback Jan” will be here with her vast collection of books and Mala will also be coming along with her selection of cards from Phoenix Trading for all occasions, including Christmas cards too.
There are a couple of events in Vouvant this month, the first being the Pompiers’ Christmas Ball this Saturday the 3rd (today!) This will be our first time to join in the fun as we couldn’t make it last year; we are really looking forward to it.
As in previous years we will be having a Christmas Carol evening on Christmas Eve from 7.00pm in the cafe (or the courtyard if it’s not raining!) There will be nibbles provided and of course our very special Mulled Wine to warm you as we sing. It’s a chance for us to say Merry Christmas to all our friends and clients who have supported us throughout the year and we look forward to seeing you there.
Apart from our usual days closed (Monday and Tuesday of each week) we will be taking a couple of other days off in December – we will display them in the cafe too:
•Saturday 17th – Closed
•Sunday 18th – Closed
•Sunday 25th – Open 1100 to 1400 – Closed for the rest of Christmas Day
•Sunday 1st January – Closed
Well I’m off to start writing my Christmas cards and decide on the Christmas decorations for the cafe this year.
Hope to see you all very soon in the cafe!
