4 November 2011

Hello everyone from a damp but warm Vouvant!

Autumn is here and the trees are trying to change colour and shed their leaves, the smell of the newly lit wood burners is in the air and the rain is coming down in sheets! Not to worry, we’ve got a warm and cosy cafe and with all the new items on the menu there’s bound to be something to “warm the cockles of your heart” as they say! We’ve got news of the latest quiz
and forthcoming events and new items in the cafe, so here goes:

The Halloween Quiz was a great success with the winning team beating the runners up by just three quarters of a point – Paul and I had to recount just to make sure (OK Chris – we know you were robbed!) We had some super fancy dress costumes and asked everyone at the quiz to choose our winner – Alan Perry was our well deserved winner – the best dressed ghoul I’ve ever seen! Thanks to everyone who took part in the quiz – it was a fun evening. Our next quiz and meal evening will be at the end of November – Beaujolais and Boeuf Bourginon!

We have a couple of new items of craft and artwork in the cafe – some good ides for Christmas presents! Tee Taylor has been adding to her long list of talents and is now producing some of the most beautiful glass jewelry and ornamental items at very reasonable prices. Tee was here with us during a couple of weekends during the summer to show off her beautiful necklaces, cuff links, bag holders and decorative glassware – you can see more of her work on her website “” and we will also have some more of her pieces in the cafe in the months leading up to Christmas. We have a sample of a lovely gift for a baby – a wooden hand turned rattle – very tactile and good to look at too! Each rattle is unique and are supplied in presentation boxes with a gift card and scroll detailing the history of babies’ rattles. They make ideal gifts for baby showers or christenings. Have a look at the website of “The Plate Rattle & Bowl Company”who are the producers, at

The Armistice Day service in Vouvant will be held on Friday 11th November and we will open the cafe at 10:15am so that all those who wish to take part can come along and have a complimentary coffee or tea prior to the service. We can also supply you with lapel poppies! We will then close the cafe just before we all meet at the Memorial outside the Maire at 10.45am (prompt!) The cafe will re-open after the service. Further details can be obtained from us or the Maire.

Also in November is the Vouvant Christmas Market, held on the weekend of the 26th and 27th November. The market will be in the streets around the church so parking in the car park will not be affected. Come along and have a glass of mulled wine or cup of hot chocolate in the cafe to give you the warmth you will need to tackle all that Christmas shopping!

Well that’s it for upcoming events at the moment – if any more appear on the horizon then I’ll let you know. Don’t forget we are now on winter opening hours so will be closed on Monday and Tuesday of each week but are open every other day for lunch and afternoon teatime treats, as well as all our usual wines, beers and spirits.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all soon in the Cafe!
