10 October 2011

Hi everyone,

We’re back in Vouvant after a fabulous holiday in Malta and a few days in London. I must admit it is good to be back home – I quite forgot how busy the M25 and London can be. I think we have brought Autumn back with us though – sorry folks but this was the way the weather was in the UK when we got back and it looks as though it is not going to change in the near future!
However, we have lots of things to look forward to this month, not least of all our Winter menu which will begin from Wednesday when we re-open. We will be adding a few new items to the menu such as Paul’s Chicken Curry and rice, served with mango chutney; some really lovely chunky pies – chicken, leek and ham, steak and kidney, beef and Guinness and a superb traditional style pastie. We still have our firm favourites – chicken and mushroom cobbler, creamy fish pie, chilli, lasagne and vegetarian chilli. We will also be introducing some new cake recipes – English Cherry cake, Gingerbread cake and a glazed fruit cake. We may not have every cake
available every day but I am sure there will be something to wet your appetite!

Now, what else is happening this month:

Wednesday 12th October:
Paperback Jan will be here with all her books and DVDs – lots on offer to keep you occupied on the evenings when all you want to do is curl up on the sofa with a good book or watch a film on TV. Jan will be here from about 2.30pm onwards and would love to see you.

Thursday 13th October:
The Vouvant Reading Group is looking for new members and will be holding an Open Evening in the Cafe from 7.00pm. The group meets once a month to talk about the books they have read over a meal and drinks in the cafe. Everyone is welcome to come along and meet the group and find out more details. We will be offering nibbles on the night and look forward to seeing you.

Saturday 29th October:
It’s our Scary Halloween Quiz night! Places can be booked with Paul at 10 Euros each to include the quiz and a meal – Spicy Pumpkin Soup followed by Chilli in a Jacket. Prizes for the best Fancy Dress and of course for the winning team and a booby prize for the losers! Please note that we have already had enquiries for tables so book your places early to avoid disappointment! (Tables of four please). Don’t forget we are now on winter opening hours so will be closed on Monday and Tuesday of each week. However we understand there will be a couple of Mondays coming up this month when both the Tabac and the Auberge will be closed all day so rather than there be nowhere available for a drink or sandwich, we will open on those two days.

OK folks, we’re off to prepare the new menus now – looking forward to seeing you all soon in the Cafe!
