2 August 2011

Hi folks,

Here we are at the start of the summer holiday month and suddenly we are back to grey skies and rain – oh well at least we had a week of sunshine and the garden could do with a good splash of water; I’m sure that the blue skies will be back soon. It’s been lovely to see so many of you coming to Vouvant for your holidays and being able to catch up with what has been happening in your part of the world.

Well there are lots of things happening this month in Vouvant, the first of these being Jan’s visit to the cafe on Wednesday with her library of books. Jan will be here from 2.00pm with her books and DVDs – come along and you can grab the new edition of the Deux Sevres magazine too.

Wednesday afternoon also means Pallet in the Courtyard – if you’ve not ever played or watched a game it really is good fun. Our local pallet players are looking for new or experienced players to come along and join in – we have games on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons and everyone is welcome. Come along and watch and you’ll soon find yourselves enticed into having a go!

This Sunday – 7th August – is Folklore Day and from about 2.00pm there will be displays of folk dancing from groups from France, Serbia and Bolivia. This all takes place on the green below the Tower; there is an entrance fee of 5 euros and in the evening there is also a roast chicken meal for 10 Euros.

On Tuesday the 9th August the Opera comes to Vouvant. There will be a performance of Rigoletto, an opera in 3 acts by Giuseppe Verdi, from 9.00pm outside the Church. Tickets and information can be obtained by visiting the website festival- or calling 02 51 51 48 92.

On Sunday 14th and Monday 15th August the “Medievales de Melusine” returns. Last year this was a magnificent event

with jousting, live wolves and bears, jugglers, fire-eaters and all sorts. This year they have a new evening event – a “Spectacle Equestre Nocturne” which starts at 10.15pm. Again the entrance is 5 Euros or 7 Euros for both days. We will have an exhibition of glassware and jewellry by Tee Taylor in the cafe – or courtyard depending on the weather – during these days as well. Making Vouvant the place to be on the 14th and 15th – well worth a visit!

On Sunday 21st August the painters and artists are back in view in the streets of the village – the artists studios are open to the public for the day and they will also be out in the streets of Vouvant enticing you in to have a wander around their world. It is a lovely day for all the family and you never know what gems of the art world you will find in the village!

Well that really is a full month, and of course there are all the other things that are going on in Mervent, La Chataignerie and Fontenay-le-Comte too – so much to see and do!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has given us fruit and vegetables for the cafe – we have had wonderful tomatoes, cucumbers and courgettes which have all added colour and taste to our salads and vegetarian tarts and fruit for jam and puddings. Thanks to you all – your hard won produce is very gratefully accepted by us and our customers.

OK that’s all for now, we are off to battle the rain in La Rochelle on our day off – oh well we will enjoy ourselves whatever the weather! Have a wonderful August and we look forward to seeing you in the cafe soon.

Au revoir et a bientot!
