Bonne Annee / Happy New Year to you all!
I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas and New Year festivities as much as we did – it was a wonderful first Christmas in our own home in Vouvant. The village looked so lovely with all the lights and decorations – I really do love living here! It was quite a shame taking down the decorations but we are now back to business as usual. The Bierre de Noel has now been replaced with the Leffe again and the mulled wine has now finished. You may be interested to know that Paul has secured a very light and refreshing Cotes de Provence Rose – Le Merle – at 14 Euros a bottle or 3 Euros a glass – it is quite different to the house rose in both colour and taste and you may find this a nice change to your usual tipple. Ooh – Don’t forget, if anyone would like to exhibit any artwork then we will always try to accommodate you – we love to have the cafe looking bright and cheerful.
The Christmas Eve Carol Singing event was a great success and we would like to thank Andrew for his hard work putting it all together for us. We would also like to thank everyone who came along and sang their hearts out – it was a lovely evening and a really good start to the festivities of Christmas. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
For those of you in the UK I hope you haven’t been too affected by the snow; we are so lucky here in Vouvant, we only had one morning of snow. There was just enough for little Sloene from next door to make a snowman with her dad and for Irena to throw a snowball and get a direct hit at Rob – and then it all melted! It was a balmy 10 degrees today and it is supposed to stay this way for a few more days – let’s hope it comes to you soon.
As you know, we have been closed for a few days now and we have moved Jan’s book sale this
month – just a reminder – she will be here on Wednesday 12th January at her usual time – I know she will be pleased to see you (as will we of course!)
The Quiz Night held in December went down so well we have decided to put together another one.
The next “Big Quiz Night”, with Lasagne and Garlic Bread and dessert, will be on Saturday the 29th January. Places can be booked with Paul and the ticket price is 10 Euros each including the meal. Teams of four worked really well last time and again places will be on a first come/first served basis – a small deposit to secure your place would be appreciated. There will be prizes for the winning teams and also a donation to the local Vouvant village school will be made from the proceeds of the evening.
One last item – we need to return to the UK next weekend and the cafe will be closed on Friday 14th to Sunday 16th and we will also be closed as normal on Monday and Tuesday 17th and 18th. We will re-open on Wednesday 19th January. Apologies to our regulars but hope you understand. We will of course ensure that this is posted in the cafe as a reminder.
OK folks, that’s all for now – look forward to seeing you soon and hearing news from you too.
